The Difference Between a Ventilator and an Oxygen Generator

2021-09-22

A ventilator is not the same thing as an oxygen generator. A ventilator acts like an air compressor, providing air flow like an electric fan, and is used to aid and replace human breathing. The oxygen generator acts like a sieve, sifting oxygen out of the air. Hospitals also use the two machines together to treat serious illnesses such as lung disease and heart failure. The difference between the household ventilator and the oxygen generator is that the principle of use is different. During spontaneous ventilation, the inspiratory action produces negative pressure in the chest cavity, while passive expansion of the lung produces negative pressure in the alveoli and airway, thus forming the pressure difference between the airway opening and the alveoli to complete inspiratory. After inhalation, the elasticity of chest and lung retract, producing opposite pressure difference to complete exhalation. Normal breathing is due to the body through breathing action to produce active negative pressure difference between alveoli and airway mouth to complete inhalation, after inhalation of thoracic and lung elastic.
